The issues raised here will not stop self installs from being promoted. Of course
many will not be successful. However, the percentage that are successful will
reduce the cost of acquiring subscribers and speed up the process. There's no
doubt that increased upstream cable plant maintenance will be necessary to ensure
that the performance in not degraded. Whether that will be taken into account
before self installs become widespread or after the cable system starts experiencing
problems is hard to say.
