Taiwan's United Microelectronics Corp. and Winbond Electronics Corp. gained as they're considered cheap relative to their earnings growth potential.

``The sexiest sectors we have in the market now are chipmakers and component makers,'' said Winston Barnes, a senior manager at WestLB Securities Pacific Ltd.'s equity division.

``We are buying more shares as there is an up trend in the next month,''

He forecasts Taiwan electronic companies' earnings per share in 2000 will grow 42 percent and will rise 32 percent in 2001

I don't think so. Putting things in perspective - I am not happy with the ethical aspects of what they are doing with about 5% of the assets of the company. That does not justify what I am perceiving as a 40-45% undervaluation in the price of the stock. If the stock price stays at these levels and my portfolio appreciates in value I will be happy to add more ALSC at these levels. Meanwhile my ASYT and UTEK investments are working out OK.
