People who follow cmgi forget that many if not most don't know it exists. The name is a holdover from long ago. It doesn't roll off the tongue, or come easily to mind when considering its business. Many of us questioned whether DW should have changed the name to something more catchy, more techy, long ago so that it could gain some public recognition.

Now we have a stadium (or field, for those of a more bucolic bent) with the name emblazoned across it. It symbolizes stability, longevity, power and massiveness. It tells you the name, hence the company, is there to stay. You can count on it. You can touch it. You can see it every Sunday afternoon or Monday night.

Even if the Pat's suck, particularly without Parcells, as long as the stadium doesn't fall down, CMGI will remain. That's branding, even if most people still have no idea what it means or what the company does.
