My thanks to ardethan (the highway analogy makes a lot of sense), Faultine and buck (via PM) for answers to my question about data transmission. Faultline's and buck's answers indicated that at some point in the system the data was stored/cached/buffered either before or after transmission over the backbone. Does this temporary data storage in anyway impact the NAS/SAN, NTAP/EMC network storage issues that have been discussed here at length? Or are we talking about something completely different involving a different category of hardware?
