what prompted it was an encounter with a very large and fat specimen of Tegenaria atrica (see bottom of linked page)who made his way across my desk yesterday. since he is a close, if harmless, relative of Tegenaria agrestis, a.k.a. the hobo spider, scourge of the North-western US, i felt a sudden urge to spread some spider information.

i'd be happy to hear more about sharks...i once met a hammerhead shark (Sphyrna mokkaran) near the coast of the island Corsica while diving for corals. it circled me for a while, and later pursued my dinghy. luckily it didn't eat me.
