I wondered when SSC started buying out of production silver claims here in Colorado if it was the right plan....

The Sunshine Mine in Idaho was producing at about $4.40 per ounce, so they had a little positive cash flow. Unfortunately they had to use all of it (and more) to pay interest on all of their outstanding debt instead of using it to developing Pirquitas (required approximately $140 million of capital, but could produce over 100 million ounces at a cash cost of only $1.30 !)

Classic business squeeze, where you have to keep operating what you have to pay debt, then can't come up with the capital to develop an excellent opportunity that might have solved all of your problems.
