Controversy (Gregg vs. Geoff) ...

The Bull case is by Gregg Powers.

The Bear case is by Geoff Goodfellow.

Both men have good track records on SI (Gregg with QCOM, Geoff with GSTRF).

Here are Geoff's Bear-case-view of GSTRF:

Message 11507139
Message 11665407
Message 11666902
Message 11684987

Here are Gregg's Bull-case-view of GSTRF:

Message 14225524
Message 14228658
Message 14228794
Message 14235070
Message 14248959
Message 14250088

Geoff: Would appreciate it if you could comment on Gregg's scuttlebutt and on your view of GSTRF today. I see you updated your profile to short-term long for GSTRF. Was it because of your anticipation of a short-term short-squeeze? Or have you changed your mind about the roll-out?

Gregg: In case you are not aware of it, your GSTRF posts here on SiliconInvestor have been re-posted on the Yahoo thread at least 50 times during the past week. (Due to your Qualcomm reputation, you are now a very public figure in this sector).

P.S. I am totally confused about what to do with GSTRF in the short-run because 1) I see the possible upside, 2) I see the possible downside due to the project's cash flow situation. I am here trying to learn with an open mind (to think 'out-side-the-box', but carefully).

Geoff, BlueKite sounds good. Not for a couple of years yet on Globalstar, since WWeb will be irrelevant for a while [in the absence of WWeb devices]. Email doesn't need the compression as the cost is so low anyway and BlueKite didn't say that email would be compressed [but I suppose it will at some stage].

It makes a lot of sense to me to cut the data which has to be sent. That's exactly what QUALCOMM has done with PureVoice to get high quality voice with low bit rates. An intelligent 'interpreter' before the air-interface would enable 6x as much WWeb data to be sent.

With 3G spectrum selling for about $600 per capita, not per customer, in Germany and UK, it is obvious that if that cost can be cut to $100, it makes WWeb delivery a LOT cheaper.

As I keep ranting, all technological developments benefit Globalstar more than other systems. BlueKite is another. Terrestrial systems are getting so cheap, that like interest rates in Japan, to boost sales further, they can't cut prices below zero. Maybe terrestrial WWeb access including voice will be mostly free with advertising - it's not far off it now with Leap's Cricket Plan Comfortable Wireless.

Meanwhile, here's a laundry list of Globalstar developments from Yahoo! - nothing new, but a good summary:
