REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 2000--Advanced Digital Information Corporation (Nasdaq:ADIC - news) announced today the launch of an
entire line of new automated tape library products based on LTO Ultrium technology from IBM, the first market entrant for the next-generation advanced tape
technology.

Using LTO technology, the new ADIC product line, brings high performance storage technology to the open systems reseller channel in the industry's most complete
line of automated storage products. These include standalone tape drives, autoloaders, mid-range libraries, data center systems, and large, enterprise-class tape
storage systems. The new family of automated storage products is designed to meet the rapidly increasing requirements for data protection and retrieval, driven by
the Internet, e-commerce, the consolidation of storage, and the rise of Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) architectures.

``Ultrium tape products, based on LTO technology, are setting new industry benchmarks,'' explained Chuck Stonecipher, ADIC president and chief operating
officer. ``On the raw technical level, the Ultrium drive from IBM is the first tape product to achieve performance and capacity benchmarks that we usually associate
with the highest performance computer systems available for the entire range of enterprise storage applications. For the fast growing open systems client-server
markets, it means that premium tape technology performance is affordable for the first time. And it means that mid-range libraries pack the storage punch of data
center-class systems. For large system storage, the Ultrium drive from IBM puts so much storage into such a small physical space that it sets new records for total
capacity and space efficiency. ADIC's largest library, for example, fully loaded with LTO Ultrium storage, offers up to a record 5,184TB of native storage capacity
in a single unit -- it's the highest capacity commercial storage system on earth.''

``From a market and product development point of view, LTO technology is the first tape drive technology to come to market supporting a complete family of
automated storage systems available at launch,'' commented David Walling, Director, LTO Business Line, Storage Technology Division, IBM. ``Part of the reason
for this support is technical. The IBM LTO drive has been optimized for automation with a `soft load' function, which takes some of the insertion work off of the
automation robotics and puts it into the drive. This synergy between drive and automation should also help increase the overall reliability of the automation solution.
Close cooperation with partners is another reason for early support. ADIC and IBM worked together closely to make sure that the drive would support ADIC's
automated storage products easily and quickly, and that a complete family of automation products would be available through multiple channels as soon as the drive
itself reached the market. The early timing of the ADIC launch announcement is a validation of the success of that strategy.''

With 200GB of capacity per tape and 30 MB/second transfer rate per drive, LTO Ultrium technology is the first tape technology to deliver premium levels of
capacity and performance to the entire range of storage applications, including backup for the rapidly growing client-server market space. ADIC's line of LTO
Ultrium tape storage products includes the FastStor autoloader, the Scalar 100 mid-range library, and the Scalar 1000 data center tape storage systems. LTO
Ultrium technology will also be available in the ADIC AML mixed media storage libraries, where it creates the industry's largest capacity tape libraries and where the
new technology can be mixed with other tape and optical drives.

ADIC's LTO Ultrium products will cover a full range of storage needs, from remote offices to the world's largest data centers. The ADIC branded LTO Ultrium
product line will be available beginning in October through ADIC's reseller channels throughout North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
