There was a long interview with Ray Lane in the San Jose Mercury News this morning (and I heard that there is something in the WSJ, too). The SJMN article was further confirmation that Lane was a lucky mediocrity that happened to be in the right place at the right time. I imagine that he worked hard, but he is totally lacking in vision. He says that execution is more important than vision, which is something that people without vision always say. You need both.

He also appears, at 53, to have finally gotten the level of emotional sophistication that one normally sees in people in their late 20's. It's a good thing he's rich enough to get himself another family to start over with...

Anyway, I don't see that Oracle lost much when he left.
