I've always been negative on Lane for the reasons Hardly mentioned... my feeling is that Jeff Walker was the applications visionary and when Lane stepped in Oracle lost it all in the applications area which they defined... Sap took the entire market in a few years, at a time when Oracle owned the engine space and Sap was 1/20 the size of Oracle. Lane is a good nuts and bolts manager but thats where it stops imo. Maybe a few years ago you could debate this but not now... just look at Oracle when Larry wasn't there vs. now. My complaint is that the media promotes Lane as something he isn't... like they did with John Sculley 15 years ago, lets give credit where credit is due, Oracle is Larry's company even if he is a bit of a nut...

"I don't go away with any anger or bitterness," Lane said. "I love Oracle and it was a great time." I don't care what he had or had not today. He was good for ORCL for some time and now he had to move on. I'm just glad he didn't go away with anger or bitterness. It's an important quality to have for most of us for personal happiness. Job well done Lane and wish him best for his new venture! I'm also glad LE has been in charge over 2 yrs!!! ORCL rocks! InSook Prasad
