Official long attempts to explain how it was that Rambus missed earning royalties on SDRAM for all those years:

Hmmm. Probably the most important claim is the claim to a memory register that allows latency to be programmable. That's odd, I just framed it in one sentence! Why do you suppose an Intellectual Property company would require 10 years to get that past the patent office? Here's DramReview's review of the Rambus patents:
