Anybody have a clue yet?

These switch comparisons are great. They may only get worse.

Original test? 4 switches cascaded. Brocade's response? That is not real world. I.e. our switch doesn't work past 2 switches.... In fact NO-ONE ELSES switch works past a certain configuration (except QLGC)

So what do the UNBIASED testers do? They pair back the test to a configuration that BRCD switches work in... Perfect.

In the next month I predict you will see configurations implemented (read world - Reyes) where QLGC shines. - not your "blue ribbon" BS...

Nope, not possible the NuSpeed stuff is not Line Speed and Brocade's architecture is not compatible witht their implementation.........Think IP Routing and look at the money CISCO recently put into SANValley.

George,

<<We know that FC supports IP.>>

This statement in itself is too vague for me to comment intelligently. I really don't know what kind of meaningful support are there today in FC supporting IP. They are two different architecture. Mode of operations are much different. IP routes from hop to hop. Routers only know where the next hop is. No router knows the complete path. FC does not route.

<< If the NuSpeed application has anything to do with speeding up IP (routing or moving IP stack to the hardware), could be switching SCSI over IP through FC switches?

KJ and Technocrat - do you think this is feasible?>>

IMHO SCSI over IP through FC. Even if someone can make it work, high performance will be hard to obtain. I do see a hybrid switch with FC switch function on one side, GE onto SCSI on the other side. I would like to see FC on storage and GE on Lan working together. IP can play a role for the Metro Lan. WAN storage over IP is still mostly hype. It makes very little sense to me in terms of economics and performance.
