The problem with this article is that it chooses JDSU to compare to. Yes, the public has not punished JDSU for wiping out all visible profits with amortized "good will". But you won't see that everywhere else.

Thanks for providing the "foolish" viewpoint on pooling vs. purchase accounting.

While I can see arguments on both sides, I am consistently amazed at the notion that technologies that are being obsoleted at an ever accelerating pace (in RF and FO components sometimes within 9 months to one year) should be amortized as goodwill over a period extending several decades. This aspect of the goodwill argument seems to fly in the face of reality.
