Since I consider the lyrics you posted to be doggerel..

A dictionary defintion of "doggerel", Neo:

Verse of a loose, irregular rhythm, or of a trivial nature. (American Heritage)

Barbara Allen does not have a "loose, irregular rhythm," which is why I posted it. Nor is it "of a trivial nature," unless you consider love and death trivial.

I should also mention that you will find Barbara Allen in almost every "through the centuries" poetry anthology, under the rubric "anonymous."

I guess you just don't like authentic old ballads. <g> But that ain't enough to call them "doggerel," which is a specific term.

Barabara Allen doggerel?

You go too far. I love that song (not that that is relevant). It is not trivial or inferior or loosely put together. It is a song for the ages- and it has stood the test of time.
