MikeM- I don't know what is holding it back either. But remember it isn't just a cost substitution argument driving the switch to digital distribution. It is also that the theatres can have shorter runs, be more flexible in adjusting times and runs, and be more responsive to local demand. Also think about an opening of a popular movie. You won't need to make as many copies to get one out to every theatre even though all these copies will only be used for the first month. Just some more OTC (off the cuff) comments.

Mike,

"I've always wondered what was keeping digital distribution from rolling out. Does anyone know for certain what the problem is?"

If I had to guess, I'd say bandwidth, the lack of a uniform reference model for broadband program adaptation, and royalties. And not always in that order.
