Mostly, I don't like ballads very much. As for the classical preferences, well, let's see: I like Beethoven symphonies and Mozart operas, Bach cantatas and Chopin etudes, but that is merely to say that I like the best things of their kind ever written. Taking a piece of classical music at random, I would rather listen to a random rock song.

In poetry and art, I am as at least as likely to like someone modern, like Eliot or Matisse, than someone classical, like Dryden or Fragonard.

Remember, when talking about classics, we are talking not about something that happens to be old, but something that has gained a high reputation over time.........
