I read some PR was a hoax, but how could that happen... since when do the wires pick up posts from yahoo this had to come through some official source

The last time this happened it was one guy dummying up a PR on some esoteric website - this emlx news was even on briefing

I imagine EMLX was pretty hard to short when it broke
between 10 and 10:30 AM. But all the traders and
investors that pushed the rip cord and bailed @ 80, 70
and 50 probably paniced and wanted back in
when in opened, some systems were making it look like
EMLX was going to open more at 75 or so, I was thinking
about buying some at 75, but I would not have placed
a market order and when it opened that strong in the
afternoon, I no longer had any interest.
