Lucius,

<< Past tense used because the events described were in the past. Whether QCOM is a gorilla at this time is another matter >>

A gorilla does NOT stop being a gorilla when the tornado subsides and that is the gorilla advantage (CAP).

<< it's important to decide whether it's the gorilla of wireless or the gorilla of CDMA >>

Within the wireless world their are no gorilla's or potential gorilla's other than Qualcomm, because with the exception of Qualcomm, no company has proprietary control of an open architecture. GSM & TDMA-EDGE are committee based architectures, as will be UMTS (FDD or TD).

QCOM is not the gorilla of wireless, however. No one has ever made a case for that on this thread, and with the market share numbers below, it would be difficult to do so. despite the fact that CDMA remains the fastest growing wireless technology.

================================
MOBILE WIRELESS SUBSCRIBER STATS
================================
Through end June 2000

Total Worldwide Subscribers (millions)

494.6MM = digital (excludes ESMR)
82.8MM = analog

577.4MM = total mobile wireless (excludes ESMR)

CDMA = 67.1MM subs = + 34.2% first to calendar quarters

CDMA = 11.62% of all

CDMA = 13.56% of digital
