And people on this board question MSFT's innovation? Can Linux do anything like this? Can the Mac OS?

<< I run it myself and have not shut down my laptop in months - I just hibernate. This lets me boot up with my context preserved in about 10 seconds. Sure you can do that (maybe, sometimes) with Win9X, but does Win9X automatically discover and configure for current device and IP when coming out of hibernation? No - but Win2K does, and does it right. I go into a hotel room and hook to their DSL line, restore, and Whammo, I'm on the net, no muss no fuss... >>

I just went into three homepages:

compaq.dk - the danish Compaq website
dell.dk - Dell in Denmark
zitech.dk - One of our biggest computer suppliers
itbutikken.dk - highly automated, low cost computer supplier

The results were:

- Compaq Presario laptops support Windows NT(!) not Windows 2000. Under the title "Word 2000" is the text: "Word 97 is the most widely used word processing system..."
- Compaq Armada laptops are delivered with Windows 98 or WIndows NT pre-installed. Windows 2000 is possible, but must be installed by the end-user himself/herself.
- Zitech is delivering Toshiba notebooks, but no word is mentioned of OS. I know that most are shipped with Windows 98.
- Dell delivers with Windows 98, Windows NT or Windows 2000. Windows NT and Windows 2000 are the same price.
- ITButikken delivers IBM notebooks with Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0 preinstalled, on some of them Windows 2000.
- ITButikken delivers HP laptops with Windows 98 or Windows 2000.
- ITButikken delivers Asus laptops with Windows 98 only.

So if you look at reality, Windows 2000 is less hot than Windows NT, which is also less hot than Windows 98...

Regarding your list of benefits of using Windows 2000:

1) Windows 2000 uses more battery than Windows 98, simply because it's bigger and rotates the harddisk more often.
2) Windows 2000 is much slower on a laptop.
