I rode on a prototype of the experimental train the Japanese built between Kyoto and a manufacturing plant in the countryside. The prototype was at the Japanese pavilion at the 1986 World's Fair in Vancouver. The train was phenomenal. They were talking about it achieving speeds just below the speed of sound. They ran a movie on the train that showed film of the Kyoto train travelling 180 MPH and another camera filmed a wineglass filled with wine sitting on a table while the train continued to build speed. There wasn't even a ripple in the wine the ride was so smooth.

Waiting for super conductivity to make it economic - which may be happening sooner than you think.

Mag/Lev was a hot topic in the 80s. Whatever happened to that idea?
