The collapse throughout the basin was complete
There have been disasters throughout history, one good earthquake in an area already suffering from silting rivers, over harvested cropland, and envious neighbors can lead to total colapse. I'm at home now and have a better chance researching Minoan history.

some type of Velikovskian disaster
Have you read his scenarios, they're not just disaster, they are a whole series of events that defy physics and logic.

Paraphrased from Encyclopedia Britannica,
The Minoans first brought bronze age technology to Crete about 3000 bce, apparently they arrived from modern day Iran, or Turkey (with technology from Egypt). The civilization stayed centered on Crete and agean islands but eventually began to dominate the areas of modern Greece. They were better sailors than their neighbors. The mainland (Greece) cities were under constant harrassment from the Balkans. Nearly all new technology and culture was developed in Crete and diffused to the mainland. By 2000 bce they were well established in Greece and Turkey and traded throughout the Medeteranian.

About 2000 bce additional pressure from peoples from the Balkans pushed the people of Turkey to begin conquering some of the islands of the Aegean. More pressure was on the Minoans located in Greece also. The Minoans were retreating from Greece to the islands where their civilization was becoming even richer and stronger based on trade instead of agriculture. The greatest palaces and art was produced as the most successfull Minoans concentrated again in Crete.

In 1400 bce the pyroclastic explosion of the island of Thera (Santorini) covered Crete in ash. Most of the surrounding islands and the coast of Greece were destroyed by tsunami. The Minoan shipping industry was wrecked. The Minoans began rebuilding but 50 years later the island of Crete was attacked and overun by a mainland culture. The palaces and cities were destroyed, the inhabitants were apparently slaughtered and replaced by immigrants who made no effort to rebuild or adapt any of the Minoan technology or culture. Total slaughter, total replacement. The remaining Aegean islands fell to conquers. Some of the people in the Greek mainland were absorbed into the population of the invaders and the technology and culture was an influence on the emerging Greek civilization.
