Hey dannobee (and everyone),

Like 90% of the rest of Wall Street, I spent the last week somewhere hot and fairly inundated with palm trees and sand.

I think there is a lot to be gleaned about how markets work both by studying the interesting chain of events leading up to the LTCM collapse and its' effects on former notions regarding computer modeled hedging/portfolio insurance. Obviously when one deals on the institutional level, there are far more variables to be taken into effect than on the retail level.

A good book covering this topic is "Inventing Money: The Story of Long Term Capital Management and the Legends Behind It" by Nicholas Dunbar.
