Don’t trust the Post. “Germoont?” I don’t think so. Hate to be so pedantic about this stuff, and so early in the morning. My sojourns in Germany do predate this latest enrichment of the Sprache, but they haven’t totally revised the language yet. If the verb “to moon” has been Germanized, it would be either “moonen” or “ermoonen,” but probably not the latter. Verbs that start with “er” do not add a “g” when forming the present participle. (e.g. erzählen, erzählt) And verbs that add “ge” to make the participle do not throw in an “r” (e.g. lesen, gelesen). So it’s either “gemoont,” or “ermoont,” but not “germoont,” which sounds just plain silly don’t you think? -Wayne mpw@backtonothing.edu
