The role Aether' Omnisky plays here is that it enables Palm V users to access the net thro' web-clipping.

Walt:

Last AETH filing I checked (S-1/A in March this year), 3Com owned 2.64 million shares of AETH, about 7% of the total shares outstanding, an investment presently worth around $375 million. They already held this position prior to AETH's IPO in October 1999, so 3Com's share cost basis is presumably less than the IPO price of $16.

Also remember there's another 3Com tie-in with AETH, the joint venture with Omnisky, with 3Com holding (directly) around 40% and AETH around 30%.
