Re: "It's great that Intel has superhigh yields on cheap, low MHZ, small cache, chips, but what good does that do for the stock?"

Maybe you didn't notice but Intel reached a new all time high this past week.

Re: "Not only does AMD produce enough chips to dominate desktop retail, but they can sell them above cost"

I think you mean to say that because AMD can't penitrate the business market, they have plenty of K7s left to sell into the retail market, despite the low volumes coming out of their two large fabs.

Re: "Which company do you think has better yields on chips that sell for more than $150?"

That's easy. Intel.

Re: "When the process targets 1GHZ for Intel's P3, how may die are bad for every one they can ship?"

I can see once again you don't understand semiconductor manufacturing. Intel is producing 1GHz CuMines in volume on standard production material. The ones that don't run at 1GHz simply downbin to the speed where they do run. Failure to run at 1GHz does not impact yield. It's a binsplit thing.

Dan-

what good does that do for the stock?

Well, Intel hit a new all-time high last week.

Which company do you think has better yields on chips that sell for more than $150?

My turn to ask: What good does that do for the stock?

Frank
