Have you actually read Velekovsky, or read the Reader's Digest version or anything. That's the kind of stuff that he bases his theories on. I'm sure if you go through his books you can find a quote or two that make sense, but the premise he builds up is very peculiar.
Venus breaking off from Jupiter and then whizzing around the Earth leaving hydrocabons in the wake, then somehow whizzing back around the earth all before coming back in a stable orbit is the basis for his entire explanation of bronze age history.
