Thanks for the expansions. It's useful to note, however, that the "content" exists in its own distinguishable form, and is not tied to any type of medium for distribution. Although some variations of this rule can come into play if the content presentation is tied to a given distribution platform's electronics, such as interactive-tv in some set top and head end applications, which could depend more on user preferences and interaction, where the content can be generated real time on the basis of parameters that are unique to a set of special "service" features. Such as a viewer who desires to see that play again, this time from the left fielder's perspective.

But the latter begins to go into another realm, that of "services", more so than canned content. Comments on this point are welcome.

Otherwise, content in its purest form could be stored on any of a number of different types of media and shipped snail via USPO or FedEx, or it could be sent via satellite or over forms of terrestrial transmission, such as our popular CM and DSLs, not to mention dialup modems.

Armstrong's goal of preserving his investment is noteworthy, although it should be a weighted decision on the MSOs parts (the ILECs don't seem to have problems with offering "universal and open" access), because they could lose out entirely for any given content provider's _traffic_ share, if the content provider opts for another avenue of distribution. There's nothing more sorry than a multi-megabit pipe just sitting there with nothing to do, except, maybe, for the more general reality that speaks to Cable TV's 57 channels and nothing worth watching. Most of the time.
