I didn't think I was arguing, just (de)positing my 2 cents. I'm not always disagreeable or argumentative. Sometimes I'm just being harmlessly or obnoxiously opinionated.

I've had this discussion with other people who think BG couldn't do anything nice. My opinion is that I just don't know him. And really, all of us don't KNOW anyone else, even our closest companions, so heck, maybe he is just trying to move up the spiritual ladder or, maybe it's all part of his evil plan. Or if he isn't doing that either, well he'll elevate all of us by simply bankrolling the activities of really, really good people. But he gets credit for that in my book.

I think this question of motivation bugs some people who just can't accept an act that seems disharmonious with their assessment of another person. It is an attempt to lower the act in the case of bad faith, or to elevate where it is the result of good intent. What matters are the acts and not the motivations, IMO, - but I accept that is just an opinion, certainly not a fact. It's only the standard I use. People that do nice things are nice people. I haven't seen one iota of evidence to show that isn't a good rule in most cases. People can be deceptive, but that means that ultimately the acts have to stop and reveal the TRUE nature underneath.

What if someone actually is executing a deception but dies before doing the ultimate harmful act? WE can't tell the difference. They got into the scrap book as a good person. Does it matter? Maybe to them before they died. Maybe to us if we knew. They are dead. We don't know. All we have is the record of their acts.
