Thank you for this depressing information..... I'm going to post a link for this over at the "CNBC--critique" thread.
What an incredibly stupid policy attitude NBC and GE had/has toward NBCi..... Jack Welch should be very ashamed of all this mess.... Yogi

Thank you for this post with deep info on Snap.com portal. I havn't used it for at least 6 month now.

GE's net strategy was help desk with collaboration from experts crossing internal divisions(diversification). It has been very successful for their regular businesses.

Net business which is all bell and whistles, they have not got. GE appliances' bell and whistle on their site has no flair. You visit it once in a while and will find no need to revisit. NBCi has the same problem. The necessity of having creative people refresh sites daily is the necessity of life of web sites.

Having run a bbs for over one year myself; I find frequently I needed fresh approaches to get new customers. I burn out too frequently by myself.

So, for the matrix guys at the headquarters, GE's net business has to have frequent material additions to add html pages for an exciting way to attract customers. It is never consolidation but more and more diversifications to attract more fringe sectors and segments of customers. Their consolidation efforts at NBCi failed very simply by consolidation or reduction of brain power(brain drain via losing good workers who were successful).

Enough said. But the hard job is ahead for Mr. Welch, to rebuild net strategies. Many of their businesses needs to have net presence and paperless efficiencies for purchasing and order taking.
