Nope, I didn't root for JFK, although I did end up voting for him. (I am a registered Democrat, after all.)

Remember, JFK's big "debating point" against Nixon was a big fat phony (the non-existent "missile gap"); he did not have FDR's New Deal accomplishments (I considered them accomplishments); he did not even have FDR's eloquence (and he spoke through his nose). Most importantly, he did not have any clear reason that I could see for wanting to be President, other than wanting to be President. (I got that same feeling from Papa Bush, too.) And I was never into that "Camelot" stuff.

I will say that although I was never a fan of LBJ (what woman could really be an LBJ fan?) I really wanted him to beat Goldwater-- because of Vietnam. I was counting on LBJ to wind down the operation in Vietnam, while I thought Goldwater would turn that country into the proverbial parking lot...In the event, LBJ proved to be a big disappointment, to put it mildly. Since then, I have been more wary, at least where foreign policy is concerned.
