CTC to lease dark fiber from NEON
8/24/00
By C. A. Soule
Waltham’s CTC Communications plunked down $3.3 million to lease 325 miles of unused fiber optic cable in southern New Hampshire and Maine from NorthEast Optic Network, based in Boston.

The deal is dwarfed by CTC’s April agreement to buy long-term access to 8,300 miles of fiber from Williams Communications. As of June 30, the company CTC had 13,000 customers, and over 361,000 access lines.

CTC plans to buy Cisco Systems equipment to "light" the fiber and carry telecommunications traffic over the lines.

Robert Fabbricatore, chairman and chief executive officer of CTC, said that the Company continues to explore the purchase of "dark" fiber in other metropolitan markets.
