Given the problem that came up with Sun and the way it appears the industry is going, I don't see this as OT. I was just using IBM as an example because I am most familiar with what they do, but the same applies to all companies in the server business. I'll drop it if you find it OT though.

They are, for example, pretty damn good at building disk drives. Should they refuse to sell them to EMC?

Interesting example. They had BIG problems with the 10,000 RPM drives this spring. EMC ended up having to go to Seagate for drives (I think it was Seagate?). I never heard of any Shark systems that couldn't get the drives though. I'm not all that familiar with the disk drive problem or how either company was affected, but it seems this is just the type of situation of conflict of interest I was suggesting.
