JKL would make a nice acquisition for SLI.

Yeah, poor SLI needs to do something <g>.

Supposedly (according to Yahoo) their book value is above their stock price, although only $.90 is cash. I just can't get excited about buying more SLI wrt white LEDs with the competition that is out there. As a turn-around play maybe, but they'll be spending lots of dinero on the fab in Canada.

Anyway, I figure I'll give them another year and if they can't get their core business together I'll bail.

Re: white LEDs
I wonder how much the conversion to white from blue costs in efficiency. If it's substantial the RGB triple diodes would be a way to go. Actually looking at the "Brighter LEDs" chart in the MIT article you posted gives some of the answers to what has which Lumens/Watt.

Also on the Nichia site:
nichia.co.jp
at the bottom of the page, gives power dissipation.
Assuming the power dissipation is at the operating voltages and currents listed, I get an efficiency of 20% for blue, green and white, and 52% for red. Nevermind..... that doesn't make sense. So much for my assumptions <g>.
