BB,

<< what Moore says in support of Apple and the path they wisely took at the time. Have you read "Inside the Tornado"? >>

References to Apple are scattered all over all 4 Moore books in each of their revisions.

All this makes me wish all 4 books were available in E-book format so the references could be easily searched, which would prompt me to buy an E-book instantly.

Perhaps the most interesting (to me) are the references in the original "Chasm" published in 1991 but there are some interesting comments on page 61 of the RFM where Moore discusses "Apple's subsequent problem-filled history (that) emerged only after the PC market moved onto Main Street".

Is their a Qualcomm analogy in this? There is no gorilla threat, but there most certainly is a clash with committee based standards and architecture, and one heck of a resulting ongoing battle to increase CDMA market share. Everybody hates the gorilla and tries to kill it. The gorilla can't miscue.

Back to Apple ... which I suspect Moore had considerable exposure to. I know he consulted to NeXT, because Steve Jobs' #2 there, brought Chasm Group & Moore on board to consult to my corporation. It wouldn't surprise me if he weren't back consulting to Jobs.

Speaking of the "Death of a Gorilla" (which Luke raised the specter of, or at least advised of diligence on) as Moore says in pages 123 ff of the RFM... "it's not a pretty sight" (referring specifically to how the market corrects the gorillas capitalization).

Fun With Charts

put a few of our other faves into BB's chart for comparison; kinda interesting. Intel did a bit better than the Naz composite over that period, MSFT just over half as well, the others blew it away...
