Intel guides analyst to an expected tax rate and an expected investment gain. If things change significantly during the quarter they revise guidance.

If AMD can't issue accurate guidance on major profit issues such as taxes, they will continue to have problems with expectations. It's not the fault of the press, it's AMD's fault. And it's probably one of the reasons AMD's stock has performed as it has since it's last earnings announcement, it's hard to feel comfortable with a company that forgets taxes in it's earnings projections.
