Alcatel Introduces 10-Gigabit Ethernet MAC Soft Core; Leading Vendor of Ethernet MAC Cores Will Begin Shipping 10-Gig Core BusinessWire, 08/28/2000 08:25 CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 2000--Alcatel, the leading provider of Ethernet MAC (Media Access Controller) technology, today announced the development of a 10-Gigabit Ethernet MAC soft core available for licensing in Q3 2000, with a first release set for Q4 2000. The Alcatel Technology Licensing Group's 10-Gigabit reusable soft core will be designed for networking product companies developing next generation products for service providers and enterprises with requirements for faster, cheaper, bandwidth-intense networks offering high reliability. The module will be provided as Verilog RTL source code with a behavioral model test bench, extensive documentation and in-depth training. Code updates will be provided to licensees of this core during the IEEE 802.3ae standardization process. Final shipment of the soft core will follow the resolution of the IEEE 802.3ae standard specification, set for Q1 2002.
