Ken, the "technology" pull down section (left side of page) at light-wave.com is quite helpful, sometimes. A search on ASON yielded:

eoenabled.com

See the papers at the bottom of the page re

ASON:

nortelnetworks.com

Creating an Intelligent Optical Internet:

nortelnetworks.com

Both are NT publications. I don't know how universal a "standard" ASON is. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

The problem with purchasing optical technology texts these days is that they are outdated before they print the copyright date in them, which is usually many months after the final manuscript is endorsed.

None of my "recent" texts on optical communications systems makes a reference to the ASON "standard," however.
