Re: As per HARDOCP, all three failed a simple real task of Linux kernel compilation. This indicates to me that Intel's PIII 1.13GHz is nothing but a PR stunt to grab the speed crown. As per Tom the Intel supplied solution(VC820MB) is tuned (BIOS) for lower performance. If true, what Intel did here was to stamp 1.13GHz on the part that's not allowed to run at full potential - a blatant attempt to steal the speed crown.

IMHO, this is clearly a deception, and an attempt to fool the market as well as the entire public. Intel's release of 1.13GHz processor clearly had an effect on the AMD stock price. What if Intel finds that its 1.13 GHz CPUs really have a problem? Is Intel going to recall handful of these CPUs if they find out that the problem reported by Tom is for real, or are they going to just provide a bios fix that would tune down the performance of the CPU even further?

Goutama,

The desperation at Intel is sinking to new lows.

They are destroying all credibility with OEM's by trying to keep wall street in the dark.

This is good for AMD. Let them create the demand, it's pretty clear AMD can fill it, unless you want to buy from Dell.

Goutama:

Not to worry...Q3 and Q4 results will demonstrate clearly who is the new microprocessor king...The real story that AMD is shipping 1.1 gig Athys today and INTC, once again, is suffering what looks to be significant production/design problems with its PWeeiii 1.13 gig processors will ultimately surface in the marketplace...no matter how highly paid Intel's PR people are...

Goutama -Looks like Intel is about to recall their 1.13GHz chips:

Dell just pulled the chip from their site: You can't select it anymore!

Goutama, Re: IMHO, this is clearly a deception, and an attempt to fool the market as well as the entire public.

I couldn't agree more. Maybe we should mail CNet or ZDNet about it, so that we could gain some more PR?

Neither Dell nor IBM is selling the 1.13 GHz P3s any more which indicates IMO that there are a) major heat problems or b) Intel can't supply any 1.13 GHz parts right now. Probably both assumptions are correct. I can't believe that the street don't see this deception and that they don't accept that Intel is obviously lagging behind AMD in MHz terms. Right now Intels stock is at another all-time high and AMDs stocks barely is at +/- zero. Probably we need another record breaking quarter until perception changes.
