An interesting thought. It hurts to imagine what type of chaos would prompt crude settling in gold, and it hurts worse to imagine the chaos caused by such a switch. It wouldn't be good for oil demand to decimate world economies by making oil prohibitively expensive, and simultaneously destroy the value of the dollar as the price of gold goes ballastic. But in an infinite world, everything is possible!
