INTC is either putting on one big head fake or they will become a minor player in cdma asic sales. I believe they are still operating under the old DSP licensing agreement- although extended by QCOM still requires additional negotiation.

So perhaps when all of INTC's effort is reviewed and claims of future market dominance in future w-cdma asics (ala MOT and others) as well as facing a new royalty agreement for 1x and hdr - INTC will find that path is significantly harder than it is to acquire Spinco. I like the alternative of IBM or INTC purchasing Spinco.

There is clearly more here than simply adopting the best competitive company. We all know decisions at these companies such as INTC, TXN, IBM (and others)are based on careers as well as a lack of organizational structure which does not promote the development of disruptive technologies. These companies like to review data and NOK can present data that assumes GSM will transition to w-cdma. The only problem is the interpretation of the data and circumstances that will prohibit the GSM crowd from successfully running their business along the migration path suggested by the emperor -NOK. As a result it may not be surprising that any of these companies opt to acquire Spinco.

NTT can save face by announcing they are working with Spinco on a w-cdma chipset, only to implement HDR as an "interim step".

Other companies who may be capable of acquiring a part of spinco might be Cisco, Samsung, Microsoft- New entrants who have the vision to disrupt the industry. FWIW
