Is this the new Intel stance...now that AMD has opened up a "here-and-now" lead in the MHz race by the widest margin in Intel's history...Gimme a break!

With my well-known bias, this is exactly the kind of response I was expecting. I know it is hard for you to accept the possibility that the Mhz wars don't matter any more precisely at the point when you believe AMD has opened a lead. But it has been coming for months. The languishing of both stocks, and rather precipitous fall by AMD were warning signals. They occurred at a time when both companies were coming out with faster and faster parts.
Intel is doing well in spite of this, but probably because of wireless and flash, servers and other offshoots that have not been previously priced into the stock. I don't take any particular pleasure in saying this, but it is the way I see it.
I guess a more interesting question is why you (and you are not alone) seem to believe that the viability of the two companies will be determined by who gets to some magic Mhz number first. It seems so clear to me that that is not the case. The next 6-12 months will tell the tale.

Regards,
Frank
