Bloomberg:
Intel denies Brazil fab plans
but will open board factory
SAO PAULO -- Intel Corp. will open a factory in Brazil to produce motherboards and networking boards for both the domestic and export markets, the Valor Economico newspaper reported.

Quoting Paulo Cunha, Intel's general manager in Brazil, the newspaper said that big chip maker may also manufacture other products in Brazil, including semiconductors. If Intel decides to go ahead with the new fab, it would amount to a $500 million investment, Valor reported.

Intel already has an assembly and chip-testing factory in San Jose, Costa Rica.

But Intel denied that it has plans to build a fab in Brazil. "At this moment, Intel doesn't have on its roadmap for future plants any intention to build a semiconductor factory in Brazil," Cunha said in a statement today.
