I read an article a long time ago on the origins of rock and roll in Whole Earth Review magazine. It was real good, they had done their homework. I just looked around the web for it, but couldn't find it. They talked about words like rock and roll, jelly roll, jazz, and a couple others having origins in black slang and having to do with sex in one form or another. If I remember right, jazz comes from jizz, or jism, the precise meanings of which elude me now, but were slang words used by blacks in New Orleans in the 19teens and 20s.
