Mani,

re: PIII fix.

Unless the fix is a metal layer fix, No way is PIII with design fixes coming in 2 months or so.

If its an all layer fix, we are likely not gonna see product till Q1 2001.

My guess is some kind of timing glitch, but likelihood of metal fix is questionmark.

regards,

Kash

Mani,

Damn right I'm pissed. How long can this charade go on? The investment community has its collective head stuck in the sand. As Drew Peck said:

"That's the strange thing about Intel," says Peck. "Despite the fact that they're
facing some of their biggest challenges in the last 20 years, the stock is selling
at an all-time high. It seems very odd. There's some sort of resistance on the part
of investors to acknowledge these issues."

Ok...deep breathing.

Mani, as I posted in the original link to that article, that "couple of months" sounds optimistic at best. On the other hand, maybe Intel will hire a bunch of teeny tiny guys with teeny tiny soldering irons to attach teeny tiny trace wires to the affected circuits, and actually "repair" them, as in the quick zdnet blurb:

Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) is recalling its 1.13MHz Pentium III processor in order to fix a problem that could cause certain applications to freeze. Intel officials said that some 1.13GHz chips showed the problem, but that it will recall and fix all the processors that have shipped.http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/newsbursts/0,7407,2620764,00.html?chkpt=p1bn

Cheers, Dan.
