Pravin,

The problem is that when their universe does change, it will take AMD down with it.

You are right, that's exactly the problem! I'm happy to have Intel stumble and give us some breathing room, but why anyone would want the fundamentals altered is beyond me.

I'd much rather have AMD putt along at the high-end with great ASPs and no waves...

Even if AMD were to capitalize (as it has failed to do so this year) the upside is limited. Intel is still the only entity with the fab space to supply the market.

You all know that as soon as Intel shows poor returns on the cpu biz....we'll see even more articles on how it's a crappy biz to be in....and why Intel is diversifying...the Internet....blah, blah...away from cpus...blah, blah.

Bottom line...sand into $$ is an awesome biz! I know everyone would like to see AMD replace Intel...but it ain't gonna happen....at least not tomorrow. I'd be happy to have a reasonable presence in the value market with Duron (i.e., mb's for everyone) to maintain segmentation, the high-end desktop (and high asps) of Athlon, and some penetration into the high-end server biz (with 'stang).

Let Intel worry about diversification...meanwhile we'll be focused on having the best technology, hopefully getting people to pay a higher price!

Enough rah, rah.
