They are "afraid" of privatization because the mission of the USPS is to serve every single American address via first class mail at one reasonable uniform rate. If privatization were to occur, private companies would "cherry pick" the best and most profitable locations, leaving the USPS with the "pits". Then we might have a situation where the city areas and most suburbs would have relatively cheap first class rates, while people living "out in the sticks" would pay a much higher rate..... The American people do not want such a system at this time, but they could conceivably change their minds in the future. Yogi
