I think Tom said that his down clocked 1.13 GHz P3 worked perfectly so I guess it is "only" a heat problem. It would be interesting to do some tests with 1.0 Ghz parts that are produced in the new c0 stepping. If the error lied there this would be devastating news for Intel. But I don't think this is very probable.

Today's events reminded me of the Cold War.
Remember Reagan and Gorbachev tried to outspend each other in the arms race. Then the Soviet Union collapsed.

I think we should mark our calendars. Today, may just be the day of the "inflection point" that Andy Grove was so fond of talking about.
