the way I see it is, if the government puts a 2K/year limitation on an IRA then that is how much an individual should be paying into Social Security.

I know they have much higher limits with 401Ks etc but the original IRA was deductible only if you didn't have a pension etc so somebody somewhere decided 2K was enough. If SS costs more than that to fund, then its a tax like any other and should be paid for out of federal income taxes with the standard rates, that would be my preference. The current SS system is an awful burden on corporations and businesses with the 7.5% match they have to pay.

How would you feel about a national sales tax and eliminate the discombobulated income tax code? With some refund/credit for low income people?
