Question:

Is not patent ownership 'different' from 'spirit of partnership?'

I believe it is, and I also think that RMBS has never set itself up in 'consortium-style agreements', to therefore 'give away' its proprietary (patented) technology.

In other sectors of technology, this commonly occurs. Re SNDK in the digital storage market. CompactFlash (TM) Association ... heard of that?

This is different situation, IMO.

Got any EEs out there that perhaps have even served as corp technical reps to consortium-style marketing/product development?

Your comments regarding 'giving away' vs. 'proprietary ownership' effects on long-term future evolution of the specific technology would be very interesting.
