Humbly report, I only encountered Joseph Svejk once. Svejk is pronounced as Schweik by some eastern Europeans that I know.

The book is very funny, here is a passage:

"Men! There's imbecility staring out of your eyes even when you're asleep, and when you're awake, you bastards, you look as if each one of you had wolfed up a truck of dynamite."

Sorry about the St. Joan mix up - I always thought St. John was bald with a halo. Probably too much codeine intake on my part.
